Läs mer om våra buddhistiska kurser Kursdatum: 6 feb What is referred to as rituals are actually different methods of engaging in Buddhist practices as a means to accumulate merit and purify negative karmas. When we don’t have a proper understanding of the significance of these practices, it may appear as merely following a tradition of saying prayers and making elaborate offerings. However, with a proper understanding and intention, these practices become a most supreme method for accumulation of merit and purifying negative karmas. Without a good stock of merit and purification, it is said that one will not be able to gain any sustainable realizations from meditation. As a preparation for engaging in meditational practices to gain higher realizations, the Buddha presented practices for accumulating merit and purifying negative karmas, which are known as the Seven Limb Practices. This course will cover the significance and purpose of these practices and how to implement them in one’s daily life. We think we love truly only a few people in our lives: our partners, children, parents, and friends. But the human potential for love is limitless, says Buddhism. more We think we love truly only a few people in our lives: our partners, children, parents, and friends. But the human potential for love is limitless, says Buddhism. In fact, the thought that only a few people deserve our love limits our potential for genuine happiness. When our love flows unimpededly to all sentient beings, our happiness becomes infinite. It sounds like an impossible goal, so let’s investigate this topic! Tengyur Rinpoche will give a teaching and there will be a Q&A session. Tengyur Rinpoche’s biography: Tulku Tenzin Gyurmey Rinpoche (Tengyur Rinpoche) was born in 1981 in Mon Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India. His father is from Tawang Zhol village and his mother, who relocated to Tawang before 1959, is originally from Lhasa. He is the sixth oldest among ten siblings, comprising six brothers and four sisters. In 1990, at the age of nine he formally joined Sera Jey Monastery in Bylakuppe. The following year, when His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited Gyudmed Tantric College, Tenzin Gyurmey Rinpoche was recognized as a reincarnated lama and also subsequently recognized both at Sera Je Monastery, Bylakuppe, and Gaden Namgyal Lhatse Monastery in Tawang. From 1991 to 1998, he studied at Sera Je Secondary School and completed his Secondary School Certificate course obtaining distinction grades in all his exams. In 1998, on completion of formal schooling, he began his advanced philosophical and dialectical training and studies at Sera Jey Monastery. During his twenty years of monastic education for achieving a Geshe degree, he was able to undertake three-year foundational course on Pramana and also complete the seven-year Paramita (Lit. perfection of wisdom) and four-year Madhyamika (Lit. middle-way philosophy) degree courses at the monastery, three years of Vinaya (Lit. Monastic discipline), one year of Adhidharma (Lit. Studies of Metaphysics in Buddhism). Tengyur Rinpoche has completed his Geshe Lharampa degree in 2021. He received novice ordination (Dge tshul) from His Eminence Choden Rinpoche at Sera Jey on 15th April, 1994 and received full ordination (Dge slong) from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2009. He is also recognized as reincarnation of Drengkhar Khensur Urgen Gonpo, one of the former abbots of Tawang Monastery, by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In addition to the formal monastic curriculum, Tulku Tenzin Gyurmey made time to study Tibetan and English grammar and literature. He has attended various conferences and discussions on Tibetan grammar and literature as well as on science and Buddhism, and he has written articles on these topics. He considers himself fortunate to have had numerous opportunities to give talks about Buddhism to Indians and foreigners, both within and outside the monastery. Tenzin Gyurmey Rinpoche had the rare opportunity of serving as English interpreter for His Holiness in numerous teachings attended by thousands from all over the world. He looks forward to continuing to share the teachings of the Buddha and explore how ancient Buddhist wisdom can bring maximum benefit in the modern world. Ej 3 mars pga sportlov. In this first module of Discovering Buddhism we examine the meaning of “mind” according to Buddhism, its nature and function, and how it determines our experience of happiness and suffering. We explore the differentiation between mind and brain, how mind is the creator of our experiences, and the implications of possessing a mind that has no beginning and no end. You will learn methods to transform destructive thoughts and attitudes and develop a more positive and joyous mind. Be prepared to look deeply into your own mind to discover its nature, its functions and the profound depth of its potential. Be prepared to look into the particular mind-set generated by your culture and society, education, religious background and environment, and the upbringing you have had within your family. Läs mer om våra buddhistiska kurser Kursdatum: 27 feb At certain points in our lives we may find ourselves asking questions such as, why am I here and what is the purpose of my life? Is everything predetermined or can I change the direction of my life? Is there an end to our problems and can we be truly happy? Over 2,500 years ago, these very same questions prompted prince Siddhartha to leave his grand palace to seek the purpose and true meaning of life. In his quest to end misery and find lasting happiness, prince Siddhartha discovered what suffering truly means and how to overcome it. After spending many years seeking knowledge and meditating, he reached the final goal of enlightenment and became renowned as The Buddha. It was only when Buddha Shakyamuni was requested to share his wisdom that he gave his first teaching, well preserved and known as the Four Noble Truths. He didn’t want his followers to accept what he taught merely out of faith, but rather encouraged them to investigate and discover these truths for themselves. To this day the Buddha’s teaching is kept alive in the spirit of sound reasoning and personal investigation. In this one day course Venerable Michael will give an introduction to the Four Noble Truths, we will meditate together and there will be time for questions and discussion. The graded stage teachings, also known as the lam-rim, provide a structure into which we can fit all of Buddha’s sutra teachings, from start to finish. The lam-rim clearly shows how all the teachings fit together and is intended as a personal instruction for our own spiritual development. Lamrim: the graduated path to enlightenment course is for those who have studied Discovering Buddhism or other study programs within Tibetan Buddhism and would like to do a review of lam-rim and focus on meditation and reflection. There will be teachings during the first hour, followed by some time for discussion, and at least half an hour for doing meditation practice together on the specific lam-rim topic. The course structure will be based on the booklet “Kopan Monastery lam-rim outline” compiled by Venerable Karin Valham. They are available in our book shop. The text is divided into preliminary practices and the training of the small, medium and great scopes of the lam-rim. The specific training of each scope is further divided into various topics which are to be studied and meditated on. As an in-depth understanding on each of the topics of the three scopes is essential for one’s spiritual progress, Venerable Michael will also be using other sources of lam-rim teachings to compliment the simple outline and meditations of this booklet. It will probably take a year and a half or two years to go through the whole text. During spring 2021 we will have time for two 7 week courses, covering the following topics: Small scope Module 1: 7 weeks (starting on March 9, 2021) Small scope Module 2: 7 weeks (starting on May 4, 2021) The remaining topics will be studied in autumn 2021 and in 2022: Small scope Module 3: 6 weeks (autumn 2021) Medium scope Great scope Read more about our Buddhist courses Course dates: 9 March, 16 March, 23 March, 30 March, 13 April, 20 April, 27 April (Note! Are other people and external circumstances the main cause that make us feel happy or sad, or could it be related to our own thoughts and actions in some way? When we gain proper understanding of karma and how it works, we will be able to create the causes for leading a happier and more wholesome life. Läs mer om programmet Discovering Buddhism Kursdatum: 27 mars During this retreat we will integrate meditation practices to cultivate a calm and focused mind with the analytical meditations from the Discovering Buddhism module Mind and its Potential. For participants of the Discovering Buddhism course this provides an opportunity to both review and deepen the practices covered in the module. For other participants it provides an opportunity to have a very practical and experiential overview of and introduction to these practices. Examine the meaning of “mind” according to Buddhism, its nature and function, and how it determines our experience of happiness and suffering. Explore the differentiation between mind and brain, how mind is the creator of our experiences, and the implications of possessing a mind that has no beginning and no end. Learn methods to transform destructive thoughts and attitudes and develop a more positive and joyous mind. Be prepared to look deeply into your own mind to discover its nature, its functions and the profound depth of its potential. Be prepared to look into the particular mind-set generated by your culture and society, education, religious background and environment, and the upbringing you have had within your family. Läs mer om våra buddhistiska kurser Kursdatum: 1 maj “Illness, suffering and death are part of the reality of human existence. It would be foolish to pretend that we are not sick when we are, or that we will never die, as it would be to deny the possibility of ever getting well.” – The Dalai Lama Most of us live in denial of death. However, it is inevitable that we experience the loss of a loved one at some stage in our lives. It is also inevitable that we ourselves experience death someday. The Buddhist teachings offer practical guidelines on how to cultivate an awareness of impermanence and death, which helps to strengthen our spiritual practice. By accepting death as part of our natural existence, we can better deal with grief when we lose a dear one, likewise it can help prepare for one’s own death. In this one day course Venerable Michael will introduce some meditation techniques on the awareness of death and the actual death process as explained in the Buddhist texts. There will also be time for questions and discussion. Read more about our Buddhist courses Course dates: 1 maj “Minimum donation” covers the costs of having the centre open and running our program. Läs mer om våra buddhistiska kurser Kursdatum: 22 maj The fundamental principles of the entire Buddhist doctrine are combined into what is known as The Four Seals: 1) all products are impermanent 2) all contaminated things are in the nature of suffering 3) everything that exists is in the nature of being empty and selfless 4) liberation is the ultimate state of peace. While practicing Buddhism is a personal choice, one does not need to become a Buddhist to benefit from the Buddhas practical philosophical teachings. The Buddha reached a state of full awakening, which means that he was able to see the true nature of all existence, to understand things exactly as they are. He articulated his insights in his teachings to help common people overcome specific wrong views, which are contrary to these principle truths. As ordinary beings, we all hold certain misconceptions relating to ourselves and the world, which is said to be the main cause for all our personal problems and all the suffering in the world. While there is no easy solution, as we begin to get a glimpse into reality, it is said that our problems will gradually reduce and eventually be overcome completely. Everyone is welcome to come and experience the teachings and find out if you find it useful! In this one day course Venerable Michael will give an introduction to The Four Seals, we will meditate together and there will be time for questions and discussion. Read more about our Buddhist courses Course date: 22 May “Minimum donation” covers the costs of having the centre open and running our program.
