——————ENGLISH——————
What is referred to as rituals are actually different methods of engaging in Buddhist practices as a means to accumulate merit and purify negative karmas. When we donât have a proper understanding of the significance of these practices, it may appear as merely following a tradition of saying prayers and making elaborate offerings. However, with a proper understanding and intention, these practices become a most supreme method for accumulation of merit and purifying negative karmas. Without a good stock of merit and purification, it is said that one will not be able to gain any sustainable realizations from meditation.
As a preparation for engaging in meditational practices to gain higher realizations, the Buddha presented practices for accumulating merit and purifying negative karmas, which are known as the Seven Limb Practices. This course will cover the significance and purpose of these practices and how to implement them in oneâs daily life.

——————ENGLISH——————
Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional wellbeing. Mindfulness is the first stepâturning with loving awareness toward difficult experience (emotions, sensations, thoughts). Self-compassion comes nextâbringing loving awareness to ourselves. Together, mindfulness and self-compassion comprise a state of warm, connected presence during difficult moments in our lives.
Most of us feel compassion when a close friend is struggling. What would it be like to receive the same caring attention from yourself when you needed it the most? All thatâs required is a shift in attentionârecognizing that as a human being, you, too, are a worthy recipient of compassion. Self-compassion is learned, in part, by connecting with our innate compassion and it further expands our capacity to be compassionate with others.
Burgeoning research shows that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing, coping with life challenges, lower levels of anxiety and depression, healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and more satisfying personal relationships. It is an inner strength that enables us to be more fully humanâto acknowledge our shortcomings, learn from them, and make necessary changes with an attitude of kindness and self-respect.
Is this course for you?
Fortunately, self-compassion can be learned by anyone.
Couse intention
After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:
âą Practice self-compassion in daily life
âą Understand the science of self-compassion
âą Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
âą Handle difficult emotions with greater ease
âą Manage caregiver fatigue
âą Practice the art of savouring and self-appreciation
âą Teach simple self-compassion exercises to clients
Program activities include talks, meditation, experiential exercises, and group discussion. Participants will directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life.
Course material included: Audio guided meditations & a practice manual

At certain points in our lives we may find ourselves asking questions such as, why am I here and what is the purpose of my life? Is everything predetermined or can I change the direction of my life? Is there an end to our problems and can we be truly happy?
Â
Over 2,500 years ago, these very same questions prompted prince Siddhartha to leave his grand palace to seek the purpose and true meaning of life. In his quest to end misery and find lasting happiness, prince Siddhartha discovered what suffering truly means and how to overcome it. After spending many years seeking knowledge and meditating, he reached the final goal of enlightenment and became renowned as The Buddha.
Â
It was only when Buddha Shakyamuni was requested to share his wisdom that he gave his first teaching, well preserved and known as the Four Noble Truths. He didnât want his followers to accept what he taught merely out of faith, but rather encouraged them to investigate and discover these truths for themselves. To this day the Buddhaâs teaching is kept alive in the spirit of sound reasoning and personal investigation.
Â
In this one day course Venerable Michael will give an introduction to the Four Noble Truths, we will meditate together and there will be time for questions and discussion.

Why do we feel elated and happy at certain times and completely deflated, sad and confused at other times? Are other people and external circumstances the main cause that make us feel happy or sad, or could it be related to our own thoughts and actions in some way?
The Buddha explained in his teachings on karma precisely how every feeling of sadness or happiness, in fact every situation that we experience, good or bad in our life, are all related to our own actions. When we gain proper understanding of karma and how it works, we will be able to create the causes for leading a happier and more wholesome life.
In this one day course Venerable Michael will give an introduction to the law of cause and effect, we will meditate together and there will be time for questions and discussion.

During this retreat we will integrate meditation practices to cultivate a calm and focused mind with the analytical meditations from the Discovering Buddhism module Mind and its Potential.Â
For participants of the Discovering Buddhism course this provides an opportunity to both review and deepen the practices covered in the module. For other participants it provides an opportunity to have a very practical and experiential overview of and introduction to these practices.
Examine the meaning of âmindâ according to Buddhism, its nature and function, and how it determines our experience of happiness and suffering. Explore the differentiation between mind and brain, how mind is the creator of our experiences, and the implications of possessing a mind that has no beginning and no end. Learn methods to transform destructive thoughts and attitudes and develop a more positive and joyous mind.
Be prepared to look deeply into your own mind to discover its nature, its functions and the profound depth of its potential. Be prepared to look into the particular mind-set generated by your culture and society, education, religious background and environment, and the upbringing you have had within your family.

âIllness, suffering and death are part of the reality of human existence. It would be foolish to pretend that we are not sick when we are, or that we will never die, as it would be to deny the possibility of ever getting well.â – The Dalai Lama
Â
Most of us live in denial of death. However, it is inevitable that we experience the loss of a loved one at some stage in our lives. It is also inevitable that we ourselves experience death someday. The Buddhist teachings offer practical guidelines on how to cultivate an awareness of impermanence and death, which helps to strengthen our spiritual practice. By accepting death as part of our natural existence, we can better deal with grief when we lose a dear one, likewise it can help prepare for oneâs own death.
Â
In this one day course Venerable Michael will introduce some meditation techniques on the awareness of death and the actual death process as explained in the Buddhist texts. There will also be time for questions and discussion.

——————ENGLISH——————
Kum Nye is called yoga but is not similar to what we usually associate with yoga. Everyone can participate and you do not need to be trained to get something out of the practice. The movements move between soft, calm and very dynamic, and it’s not about doing them “right”.
The movements dissolves tension in body and mind, and an inner healing takes place. As we go deeper, we move towards stillness, meditation and contact with our inner knowledge.
This form of Kum Nye is designed by the Tibetan Lama Tarthang Tulku. When he began teaching in the West, he realized that the meditations he was teaching did not have the effect they were supposed to have. The students he met needed to first be more present in their bodies and feelings.
The practice leads to increased openness, tranquility, balance, and a sense of being more present and alive. We move and focus on the feelings and sensations in the body. Through this, changes happen by themselves. We create balance by awakening the areas that have been inactive or dull and calming down overactive areas, such as our heads and thoughts.

——————ENGLISH——————
The fundamental principles of the entire Buddhist doctrine are combined into what is known as The Four Seals: 1) all products are impermanent 2) all contaminated things are in the nature of suffering 3) everything that exists is in the nature of being empty and selfless 4) liberation is the ultimate state of peace.
While practicing Buddhism is a personal choice, one does not need to become a Buddhist to benefit from the Buddhas practical philosophical teachings. The Buddha reached a state of full awakening, which means that he was able to see the true nature of all existence, to understand things exactly as they are. He articulated his insights in his teachings to help common people overcome specific wrong views, which are contrary to these principle truths. As ordinary beings, we all hold certain misconceptions relating to ourselves and the world, which is said to be the main cause for all our personal problems and all the suffering in the world. While there is no easy solution, as we begin to get a glimpse into reality, it is said that our problems will gradually reduce and eventually be overcome completely. Everyone is welcome to come and experience the teachings and find out if you find it useful!
In this one day course Venerable Michael will give an introduction to The Four Seals, we will meditate together and there will be time for questions and discussion.
